We have a receipient selected for this Giving Project! Watch for an announcement in the Jan/Feb Issue of Creative Times. We hope to do another one in 2008 so watch for that. Thank you to everyone that participated. Please read below on other ways you can help those in need.
The Giving Project is a collaboration of various sponsors who would like to give someone in need the opportunity to help their business and/or life. It is our way of giving back what we have been blessed with.
Hunger in America
Appalachia, WV
Have you ever been hungry? I mean really hungry? This kind of hunger can be described as going for weeks, months or even years without adequate amounts of food to eat. It hurts to be this hungry. How do I know it hurts? I've been this hungry before and I will never forget the feeling. It's a daily form of slow torture that so many people go through.
While most of us are blessed enough to take "What's for dinner" for granted, there are others who don't know when they will be fortunate enough to eat again. It's devastatingly sad and I don't think most people understand what it is like to feel this kind of hunger. I think if they did, many more would step up to the plate and say enough! Never again will a child or adult go to bed hungry. Or live for weeks on end wondering when they will have something to eat again.
Most of us are familiar with the hunger and poverty in third world countries, but if you live in America, did you know that our own state of West Virgina has a unimaginable number of hungry people? I'm talking about the people that live in and around Appalachia. Almost 23% of the people that live there are hungry. That's 23% too much. It's one of the most impoverished areas in the country and a problem that not a lot of people are aware of. I would like to invite you to read a story about a couple that live there and what it's like for them. I think it will shed some light on the hunger there for you and likely you'll shed a few tears as well.

These people need our help and I encourage you to consider donating even a small amount to Garden Harvest or similar organization to assist the hunger need in the Appalachia. Perhaps your church does missions trips there and that would also be a great way to donate your time, money, food, clothing and blankets.
